Reuse of Properties

Overview

Reuse of Properties

Properties are the main elements to describe an asset. Each property shall have a clear semantic which is understandable for each user and unique compared with all other properties to avoid misunderstandings. On the other side properties shall be reused where ever possible. This can be done in different manners:

  • Direct reuse: The same property is assigned to several asset groups.
For example the “Nominal Voltage” shall be defined once and be used for each asset which can be described by the “Nominal Voltage”.
This offers the possibility to use “Nominal Voltage” as common filter criteria to find assets from different asset groups (e.g. circuit breakers, disconnectors, arresters and voltage transformers) with the same “Nominal Voltage”.

  • Grouped reuse: Properties are collected in a block and the block is assigned to several asset groups.
For example the properties which are relevant for the QR-code are collected in the block “Identification data”. This block is assigned to all asset groups because all shall be the same set of properties to be able to generate the QR-code.

  • Inheritance: In the case of specialization properties shall be inherited. This means the common part of the property is defined on the top level and the specialization on the lower level.
